For most travellers, a flight is a time to sit back, relax, and anticipate their destination. However, for passengers aboard Singapore Airlines Flight SQ826 bound for Shanghai, their journey got off to a tense and unexpected start.
On the night of 6 Feb 2025, an altercation broke out on board, leading to two passengers being removed from the flight for verbally and physically abusing cabin crew members.

Flight SQ826 was taxiing for takeoff from Changi Airport when a disruptive incident unfolded. According to reports, one of the passengers—a woman—was seen shouting in Mandarin, while flight attendants attempted to calm the situation. A video of the scene, which has since been shared on TikTok, captures the tense exchange.
Rather than continuing with takeoff, the pilots made the call to return the aircraft to the gate—a decision taken in the interest of safety and order. Once back at the gate, both the disruptive passenger and their companion were offloaded and handed over to local authorities at Changi Airport.
Singapore Airlines (SIA) takes onboard safety very seriously, and the airline does not tolerate unruly or abusive behaviour, whether on the ground or in the air. A spokesperson from SIA reiterated the airline’s stance, emphasising that all employees have the right to a safe and respectful workplace environment.
SIA also reassured the public that crew members are trained to identify and handle situations that pose risks to safety. Additionally, the airline reminded passengers that ground staff have the authority to refuse boarding to anyone displaying disruptive behaviour before the flight even begins.
Due to the incident, Flight SQ826 was delayed by 1 hour and 46 minutes, finally departing at 3:01 am. While delays are always an inconvenience, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all passengers takes priority. SIA apologised for the disruption but stood firm in its decision to remove the unruly individuals.

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, this incident also serves as a timely reminder for Muslim travellers to practice patience and self-restraint—values that are strongly emphasised during fasting.
Additionally, airlines like Singapore Airlines strive to accommodate the needs of fasting passengers, providing special meal services and considerations for those observing Ramadan. By maintaining a composed and respectful demeanour, travellers can contribute to a more harmonious experience for everyone onboard.
While this was an unfortunate start to Flight SQ826’s journey to Shanghai, Singapore Airlines handled the situation swiftly and professionally. As the saying goes, “The customer is always right” — but in this case, safety and respect came first, as they should.
