Malaysian Duo Embarks on Adventurous Feet Over Flight Journey of 10,000km Walk to Mecca

Imagine walking 10,000 kilometres. Not for a competition, not for fame, but for something far greater—a spiritual calling. That’s exactly what two Malaysian men, Mohamad Al-Bukhari Ellia (26) and Mohamad Azizul Abdullah (34), are doing. The duo set out on 3 Dec 2024, from Changkat Lobak Mosque in Perak, Malaysia, with one goal in mind: to reach Mecca in time for the Hajj pilgrimage in June 2025.

It’s not just the distance that’s staggering. Their journey, which will take them through several countries, including Thailand and India, is a monumental test of endurance, faith, and sheer willpower. They plan to walk an average of 30 kilometres a day for 10 hours, rain or shine.

A journey of preparation and purpose

For Mohamad Azizul, the decision to take on this adventure was not made lightly. “We’ve been training rigorously for the past three months,” he shared. Their training wasn’t just about building stamina; it included mental preparation and even a practice walk spanning 220 kilometres from Changkat Lobak to the Cameron Highlands.

But for Mohamad Al-Bukhari, the journey is even more personal. Having overcome health challenges, including donating a kidney, he’s determined to prove that setbacks don’t define you. “I want to show people that health issues shouldn’t hinder your dreams. Donating a kidney doesn’t have to limit your life. Look at me—I’m still going strong,” he said with a smile that could light up any room.

Family, faith, and support

While embarking on such a massive undertaking is inspiring, it’s not without its challenges—particularly when it comes to family. Mohamad Al-Bukhari admitted that his mother had initial reservations about the journey. Understandably so, considering the risks involved. But after witnessing her son’s unwavering determination and good health, she gave him her blessing.

More than a journey: A mission to inspire

This isn’t just about getting to Mecca. Mohamad Al-Bukhari and Mohamad Azizul see this walk as a chance to inspire others, especially young people, to embrace their faith and pursue their dreams. Their story isn’t just about physical endurance; it’s a testament to the power of the human spirit and an unshakable belief in something greater.
