If you’re a buffet-lover like me and are constantly on the lookout for hidden food gems in Singapore, then look no further! This list comprises four underrated food spots in Singapore that offer buffet and steamboat-style dining experience.

Recently opened in October 2018, Captain Kim Korean BBQ & Hotpot joins the list of very few Singapore’s Muslim-friendly Halal Korean BBQ restaurants. It is a 5-minute walk away from Tampines MRT Station and is situated within the NTUC Income building at Tampines Junction.

With more than 60 varieties of fresh ingredients marinated to perfection, you’re not short of options when it comes to mixing and matching your ideal buffet meal. Captain Kim Korean BBQ & Hotpot uses Halal-certified ingredients and has applied for a Halal certification but is currently waiting for their application to be processed.

Prices vary between age groups and it’s more expensive to dine during the weekends, public holidays and in the evening. To allow other patrons to have the opportunity to dine in (as the place is relatively small), the restaurant has set a time limit for diners so take note if you have plans to eat with a large group of people!

If a Thai BBQ and steamboat is more up your alley, then perhaps Chickata Makan Place is worth a visit. Located in Jurong East, the void deck-styled eatery is just a 5-minute walk away from Chinese Gardens MRT station.
Chikata Makan Place offers marinated meat, seafood and homemade chilli sauces for BBQ and steamboat. You can choose from five different combo options from the buffet menu: Chicken Platter, Seafood Platter, Mixed Platter, costing S$28 each and Vegetables Platter, which costs $6. If you’re dining in groups, you can opt for the Combo Platter for 4 pax which costs S$48 or the Combo Platter for 6 pax which costs S$68.

If need be, you also have the option of ordering a la carte buffet ingredients. If you don’t feel like having steamboat, fret not, Chickata also offers Western food. Due to their limited space and seats, we recommend you to call ahead of time to make a reservation. Their Halal certification has expired and they are currently waiting for the renewal to be processed.

Aroma Kampung is a Muslim-owned restaurant that offers authentic kampung cuisines. If you love nasi Padang, this is the place to be! Nestled in the heart of Singapore’s Malay community, Aroma Kampung can be found in the vicinity of Joo Chiat Complex.
With more than 45 iconic Malay dishes (such as Ayam Lemak Chilli Padi, Kari Ayam, Sambal Tumis Sotong and many more) to feast on and a variety of sambal and gravy to choose from, you’re not short of options at Aroma Kampung. The restaurant also does catering for weddings, parties, functions and corporate events.

Although the restaurant opens from 10am to 7pm daily, their buffet is only available from 10am to 3pm daily. The buffet menu costs S$27.90 per adult and S$15.90 per child (ages 7-12).

Ever heard of a prata buffet? No? Neither have I until recently! Al Jasra Restaurant is a Muslim-owned coffee shop located within a few minutes walk from Kembangan MRT station. The novelty of this coffee shop is well, you’ve guessed it, the prata buffet that it offers.
The coffee shop does not only offer traditional prata options (plain prata, egg prata and cheese prata), but also has unique offerings such as ikan bilis prata, pineapple prata, and masala prata.

The buffet costs S$7.90 (excluding drinks) per person, and with there being no limit to the number of orders, you can eat to your heart’s content! Al Jasra Restaurant is also open 24-hours daily, making it a perfect supper spot for you night owls.
