Not just Boracay...
The Malaysian Immigration Department has introduced a QR code-based clearance system to make immigration at KLIA faster and more efficient. This system replaces the need for traditional counters or older auto gate systems, allowing travellers to enjoy a quicker and smoother experience. However, Malaysians must first register in advance through the MyBorderPass application.
To use the system, travellers must download the MyBorderPass app to their smartphones. After installation, they are required to register their travel details and complete a facial verification process. This verification can be done either before the journey begins or upon arrival at the airport. This ensures the system can identify the traveller during the immigration clearance process. The QR code system is part of the government’s initiative to modernise and streamline immigration procedures. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the system is currently being trialled at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, with 40 special lanes dedicated to its use. The primary objective is to alleviate congestion, particularly during peak hours and festive seasons, providing a better experience for travellers.
The benefits of this system are significant. Immigration clearance times have been reduced to 5 to 7 seconds, compared to the 15 to 25 seconds previously required with the older auto gates. This improvement is especially beneficial for frequent travellers or those with tight flight connections.
Despite the faster processing times, the Immigration Department has assured the public that security measures remain robust. The new system enhances efficiency without compromising the security of immigration checks.
To use the QR code system at KLIA, travellers must follow a few straightforward steps. First, they need to download the MyBorderPass app, which is available for smartphones and is essential for accessing the system. Next, they must register their travel details through the app, completing a facial verification process as part of the registration. Finally, upon arriving at KLIA, travellers can head to one of the 40 designated special lanes for QR code-based clearance, ensuring a smoother and quicker immigration experience.
The QR code system at KLIA marks a significant improvement in Malaysian immigration. Reducing waiting times and streamlining procedures offers a more convenient travel experience. However, travellers must prepare in advance by registering using the MyBorderPass app.
For Malaysians travelling through KLIA, this new system is a step forward in enhancing airport efficiency. With proper preparation, travellers can enjoy a hassle-free immigration process, saving time and effort.
