Not just Boracay...
Exciting news for Harry Potter fans—Shanghai is set to welcome its very own Harry Potter studio tour in 2027. This will be the third of its kind worldwide (following London and Tokyo) and the first in China. The attraction will provide visitors with an opportunity to step behind the scenes and witness how the magic of the films was brought to life.

The Warner Bros Studio Tour Shanghai – The Making of Harry Potter will be housed within the newly renovated Shanghai Jinjiang Action Park, a nostalgic theme park located in the Minhang District that originally opened in 1984. Covering 53,000 square meters, the immersive attraction will allow visitors to explore authentic film sets, costumes, props, and interactive features inspired by the iconic film series.
Rather than functioning as a traditional theme park, the studio tour will focus on the art of filmmaking. Guests will gain insight into the creative process behind the Harry Potter films, from set design to special effects. The experience will include both indoor and outdoor sections and will take approximately half a day to explore.
To accommodate this magical new attraction, Jinjiang Action Park officially closed on 26 Jan 2025, for an extensive renovation. The redevelopment will not only introduce the Harry Potter experience but will also revamp the park in the following ways:
The Harry Potter Studio Tour – The primary highlight of the renovation.
A themed hotel – A magical accommodation option for visitors.
A revamped Ferris wheel – The park’s iconic ride will be upgraded to an impressive 118 meters tall.
Due to the high anticipation surrounding this attraction, the park will implement a reservation system requiring guests to book specific dates and time slots in advance to manage visitor flow effectively.
Projections estimate that approximately 2 million visitors will explore the studio tour within the first year. With Harry Potter’s widespread appeal across multiple generations, the attraction is expected to draw fans ranging from teenagers to longtime enthusiasts in their 50s—not only from China but also from Southeast Asia and South Korea.

One of the standout aspects of the Shanghai tour will be its incorporation of Chinese cultural elements while remaining true to the original Harry Potter storyline. Unlike the Harry Potter-themed land at Universal Beijing Resort, which offers a theme park experience, this studio tour will centre around the magic of filmmaking. The attraction is expected to include cutting-edge digital interactions and locally influenced features, making it a unique experience for visitors in China.
Muslim travellers visiting the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Shanghai will find a variety of halal food options throughout the city. Some of the best locations for halal cuisine include:
The Hongqiao and Pudong districts – These areas feature several halal-certified restaurants offering Chinese, Middle Eastern, and South Asian dishes.
Muslim Street near Huxi Mosque – A popular area for authentic halal dining, serving Xinjiang specialities such as lamb skewers and hand-pulled noodles.
International hotel restaurants – Many hotels in Shanghai cater to Muslim guests by providing halal-certified menu options upon request.
Additionally, Muslim travellers can expect access to prayer facilities within the city and near major attractions, ensuring a comfortable and convenient visit.

Shanghai is already home to a range of world-class attractions, from Disneyland to The Bund. The addition of a Harry Potter studio tour further elevates the city's status as a global tourism hub. Industry experts predict that the attraction will revitalise the Jinjiang Action Park brand and contribute significantly to Shanghai’s entertainment and tourism industry.
With its blend of nostalgia, fantasy, and behind-the-scenes insights, the studio tour is expected to become a bucket-list destination for Harry Potter enthusiasts. Visitors will have the chance to wander through meticulously designed sets, admire authentic movie props, and relive their favourite moments from the films.
Travellers planning a visit should mark their calendars and prepare for an unforgettable journey into the magic of Harry Potter in Shanghai.
