Hong Kong continues to develop into a Muslim-friendly destination of choice, by improving services, facilities and cuisine that can meet the needs of Muslim travellers. To increase its appeal as a Muslim-friendly destination, Hong Kong has introduced more Muslim-friendly hotels and halal-certified restaurants.

There are currently 153 halal-certified and Muslim-owned restaurants accredited by the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong (Board of Trustees), up from 100 restaurants in June 2024. The continued commitment to this endeavour has seen Hong Kong placed second in the Global Muslim Travel Index 2024 Rankings, with Hong Kong ranked 2nd among the safest travel destinations for Muslim women and 4th among 20 non-OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) destinations.

Muslim travellers are now easier and more comfortable when going on vacation in Hong Kong with many halal restaurants and vegan options that are friendly for Muslims. Here are recommendations for halal restaurants and eateries that you must try when vacationing in Hong Kong:

1. Islamic Centre Canteen

Islamic Centre Canteen opened in 1981 and is located on the 5th floor of the local mosque, or Islamic Centre. To get to the canteen, you can take the lift or stairs and immediately find a seat at one of the classic round tables. This place is open from the morning for breakfast until dinner time. Come early and preferably not after 2.30pm, so you can still enjoy a wider selection of dim sum, which usually runs out by 3pm. This place is known as 'the only halal Cantonese food place in town. Here there are various choices of dim sum, dim sum made from steamed glutinous rice eaten with chicken wrapped in lotus leaves is one of the favourite menus here. Besides dim sum, there are also choices of rice, noodles or Cantonese fried food.
